vivo Y29s 5G Review – Balancing Price, Performance, and Features
vivo Y29s 5G Officially Launched, Successor to the Y28s with Dimensity 6300
In March 2025, vivo quietly introduced a new addition to its Y series lineup on the company’s global website — the vivo Y29s 5G. Positioned as the successor to the vivo Y28s 5G (June 2024 release), this handset becomes the third member of the Y29 family, following the vivo Y29 5G launched in December 2024 and the vivo Y29 4G in February 2025.
Design and Display
The vivo Y29s 5G carries a rather traditional design language with relatively thick bezels, especially at the chin, and a waterdrop notch that houses the front-facing camera as well as a face unlock sensor. While not the most modern approach, this is still common for budget-friendly smartphones in its segment.
The device sports a 6.74-inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution (720 x 1600 pixels), a 90Hz refresh rate, 260 ppi pixel density, and up to 700 nits HBM brightness.
Cameras
On the front, the waterdrop notch accommodates a 5MP f/2.2 selfie camera. Around the back, vivo equips the Y29s 5G with a pill-shaped camera module consisting of a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor with PDAF, a 0.08MP auxiliary lens f/3.0, and an LED flash. Interestingly, there’s also an additional LED light functioning as a flashlight with up to ten adjustable brightness levels.
Performance
Under the hood, the Y29s 5G runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 — a 6nm chipset launched in April 2024. It features two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six efficiency-focused Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz, paired with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
The smartphone currently comes in a single configuration: 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB internal storage (eMMC 5.1). While the storage capacity is generous, it’s worth noting that vivo opted for eMMC 5.1 instead of UFS 2.2, even though the Dimensity 6300 chipset fully supports the faster standard.
Pricing and Availability
As of its initial rollout, the vivo Y29s 5G has been spotted in several markets with varying price tags depending on configuration and region. In the UAE, the device is listed at around AED 560–579 for the 6GB + 128GB variant, while in India, pricing is expected to start at approximately ₹15,990. Although vivo has yet to announce official availability for all regions, these listings suggest that the Y29s 5G will position itself firmly in the affordable mid-range segment, offering 5G connectivity and a sizable storage option at a competitive price point.

VIVO Y29s Disadvantages
- Low resolution display (HD+ only) on such a large screen, resulting in relatively low pixel density (~260 ppi).
- Waterdrop notch design looks dated compared to modern punch-hole or notchless displays.
- Secondary rear lens (0.08 MP) is practically non-functional and adds little real photography value.
- Front camera only 5MP, which may disappoint selfie lovers and video callers.
- Entry-level storage type (eMMC 5.1) instead of UFS 2.2, which limits read/write speeds.
- Charging capped at 15W, slower compared to competitors that often offer 25W–45W in the same segment.
- No guaranteed ruggedness despite MIL-STD-810H mention; it’s more symbolic than practical.
- NFC availability depends on region, meaning some markets might miss out on contactless payments.
