Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro Review

ASUS has just refreshed its gaming phone lineup with the launch of the ROG Phone 9 Pro. At first glance, the specs don’t stray too far from the previous generation, but the biggest upgrade lies in its powerhouse: the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, capable of scoring over 3 million points on AnTuTu.

The ROG Phone 9 Pro runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, built on a 3nm process. This chip delivers a 45% faster CPU compared to its predecessor, while the Adreno 830 GPU ensures smooth, stable graphics performance—even when playing demanding AAA mobile titles.

Backing up that raw power is up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, giving you both speed and space for heavy multitasking and massive game libraries. To keep things cool, ASUS has fitted the phone with its 9th-gen GameCool system, featuring graphite sheets that are 57% larger and boost cooling efficiency by up to 12%.

While gaming is clearly the focus, ASUS hasn’t neglected the camera side. On the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera for crisp video calls and content creation. Around the back, there’s a 50MP Sony Lytia 700 main sensor with OIS, a 32MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultrawide camera with a 120° field of view. Together, this triple-camera setup makes sure you can capture high-quality photos and videos when you’re not gaming.

Disadvantages Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro

  • Bulky and heavy (227g), not ideal for one-handed use or small hands.
  • Premium price tag – more expensive than many non-gaming flagships.
  • Still has a gamer-style design – more subtle than older ROG phones, but not everyone will like the flashy aesthetic.
  • Cameras are good, but not flagship-tier – lags behind devices like the Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro Max.
  • Shorter OS support – only 2 major Android updates, compared to 5–7 years from Samsung or Google.
  • Wireless charging is slow at just 15W, while some competitors already offer 50W+.
  • No microSD slot or FM radio, so you’re locked into internal storage only.
  • High refresh rate drains battery faster, even with LTPO tech to adjust dynamically.
